Listen to their story

Sara and Brad – Fayetteville, North Carolina I’m Sara. Brad and I married in 2004 and welcomed four children over the next ten years. Although we were Christians, we were not practicing Christians, which caused issues in our marriage. I didn’t understand my biblical role as a wife. We didn’t communicate well, and I didn’t know my husband was struggling. In June 2020, my husband told me about his frustration. I was blindsided. God enabled me to see and hear my husband in a way I never had, but it was too late. My husband filed for divorce in August, moved out in September, and we had very little contact after that. I turned to God as never before. I learned many things about myself. I found Jason’s group and did the 7-day challenge. It was amazing, and I was blessed enough to enter the Academy. I never doubted that my marriage would be restored and I would not be divorced. Not one minute. Now, that’s not to say it wasn’t hard. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I lost 27 pounds in less than two months (and I didn’t have that to lose). I couldn’t eat, sleep, or do anything! I had a Christian therapist, worked at a Christian High School, and was surrounded by godly people. I was doing what I needed to — changing for God! I took my focus off Brad and our marriage and worked on myself! There was no instant breakthrough with my husband. He was adamant about the divorce. But God, right?! In January 2021, the breakthrough started while sledding with our kids. In February, he came home. In March, he canceled his lease and canceled the divorce. In July, we moved 800 miles away AS A FAMILY!! Just like every marriage, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, but we have a great union now. We understand each other better. We give each other the space we need. We are united as parents. We have trust, love, and compassion between us, and I look at my husband the way I should as a Christian wife. I hope that this abridged version of my story is helpful to you. My biggest suggestion is to focus on you and God — that relationship is worth more than any other human relationship — including your marriage. I am thankful for those friends and family who stood by me (even if they thought I was nuts for staying and wanting Brad back). Stand in the gap for your spouses — they are not themselves right now. I am thankful for my husband and the changes we both made and are still making. God restored my marriage fairly quickly. God’s timing, not ours. God’s will, not ours. God’s way will always win! Stay encouraged. Prayers and blessings to you, your spouse, your marriage, and your family. Sara was a member of our 12-week e-course called “The Standing Supernaturally Academy.” This 12-week course was designed to train those standing for their marriage to walk in supernatural hope, joy, and power!
