It Will Be Greater Than Before As You Stand For Marriage Restoration
It Will Be Greater Than Before As You Stand For Marriage Restoration “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.” - Haggai 2:9 (KJV) I know all too well how difficult it is to remain encouraged while facing the shattered pieces of a broken marriage. It can be extremely challenging to envision a future where restoration and renewal are possible. The pain, hurtful words and misunderstandings all seem to cast a long shadow over the beautiful memories that were once the foundation of the relationship. But during the darkness, Haggai 2:9 can shine as a beacon of hope, assuring us that what lies ahead will be greater than what was in the former. In this verse, God speaks through the prophet Haggai to a people who were rebuilding the temple, a place of worship with deep spiritual significance. Yet, their new temple seemed insignificant compared to the grandeur of the original. Then, God’s voice broke through with a promise: “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts.” – Haggai 2:9. I do not believe that this prophetic promise is limited to physical structures. I believe it extends to the spiritual, emotional and relational aspects of our lives, including our marriages. Just as God assured His people that the latter temple would surpass the former, I believe He is also saying that the restoration of your broken marriage will be greater than you have ever experienced. Believing in this promise for your marriage requires a shift in perspective. It requires you to take your eyes off the scars of the past and fix them on the potential of the future. It requires you to trust that God can take the broken pieces of your relationship and transform them into something more beautiful, resilient and loving than you could ever imagine. Is peace missing from your relationship with your spouse? God’s promise in Haggai 2:9 includes a future marked by His supernatural peace. He declares, “And in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.” As you stand and believe for your marriage to be restored, you can also anticipate a peace that surpasses understanding, a peace that comes from knowing that God’s hand is at work, a peace from all the broken encounters in the past you and your spouse have had, and a peace that knowing the future of your family is going to be better than anything you had before! Can you remember the good times, the amazing vacations, and the wonderful moments of love and connection you and your spouse once had? I’m sure you can easily think of how good your marriage used to be. Allow today’s devotional to encourage you to know that no matter how good or great your marriage was, God is going to make it even better than that! Your best truly is yet to come! So, today hold on to the promise of Haggai 2:9. Believe that the glory of your latter house will be greater than the former. Trust that God, the author of restoration, is taking your broken marriage and breathing new life into it, and He is creating something that will be absolutely amazing!
