The Power of Gratitude as You Stand for Marriage Restoration
The Power of Gratitude as You Stand for Marriage Restoration Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (TPT) – "And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.” I know from first hand experience that standing for the restoration of your marriage can often feel overwhelming and difficult. You are most likely having to navigate intense emotions, deep pain, and uncertainty about the future. However, in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, we are reminded that regardless of how difficult our circumstances may be, God calls us to always give thanks. This command is not a suggestion; it's God’s perfect plan for us in Christ Jesus. Even in your stand for marriage restoration, gratitude plays a crucial role. Let's explore how practicing gratitude can transform your heart and strengthen your journey as you wait for God’s healing in your marriage. Gratitude Aligns Your Heart with God's Will First and foremost, gratitude shifts your focus from the problem to the Provider. When we choose to be thankful in every situation, including the trials of a broken marriage, we are choosing to trust in God’s sovereign plan rather than dwelling on the difficulties. It's not about being thankful for the hardship, but being thankful in the hardship. God is working, even when you cannot see it. As you thank Him for His faithfulness, His provision, and His unchanging character, you align your heart with His will and allow Him to work through your gratitude. Gratitude helps you shift your perspective. Instead of focusing on what’s missing or what’s broken, you begin to focus on God’s presence and His promises. As you develop a heart of gratitude, you acknowledge that God is in control, and you surrender your timeline and expectations to Him. You begin to trust that God is working in the background, restoring your marriage in ways you may not yet see. Gratitude is the key to unlocking peace, even in the midst of the storm. Gratitude Grows Faith in God’s Goodness Gratitude reminds you of God’s goodness and helps to grow your faith. When you practice thankfulness, even in small things, it builds a habit of recognizing God’s hand in your life. Standing for your marriage might feel like a wilderness season, but it is also an opportunity for you to grow deeper in your relationship with God. The more you focus on what God is doing—no matter how small the steps—the more your faith is strengthened. It's important to remember that your gratitude in the waiting is a form of worship. By thanking God for the restoration He has promised, even before you see it manifest, you are demonstrating faith. You are declaring that you believe God’s promises more than you believe your circumstances. Each time you give thanks, you are aligning your heart with God’s truth that He is the God of restoration and healing. Gratitude Shifts the Atmosphere Around You Another powerful truth about gratitude is that it has the ability to change the atmosphere, both within you and around you. Complaints and negativity can weigh you down and create an environment of despair and hopelessness. On the other hand, gratitude invites God’s presence into your situation and lifts your spirit. As you give thanks, you are choosing to dwell on what is noble, right, pure, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Gratitude also impacts your relationships. As you give thanks for your spouse, even in the midst of brokenness, it shifts your heart posture toward them. Instead of seeing them solely through the lens of hurt, betrayal, or disappointment, gratitude helps you to see your spouse through God’s eyes—with love, grace, and compassion. This shift in perspective will not only help your heart heal but also open the door for restoration in your relationship. Gratitude Opens the Door for God’s Miracles Gratitude creates space for God to move. When you are grateful, you create an atmosphere of expectancy, where you believe that God can and will restore your marriage. Scripture shows us that thankfulness precedes miracles. When Jesus gave thanks before multiplying the loaves and fishes (John 6:11), He modeled the power of gratitude to unlock supernatural provision. Likewise, as you practice gratitude in your stand for marriage restoration, you are positioning yourself to witness God’s miraculous intervention. Your thankfulness, even in the waiting, is not only a declaration of faith but an invitation for God to step in. When you align your heart with gratitude, you are saying, "Lord, I trust You. I believe You are good. I know You are restoring my marriage, even if I don’t see it yet." Gratitude opens the door for God’s grace, peace, and restoration to flow freely into your life and marriage.
